Program and Career Description

Opportunities for students interested in teaching preschool children continue to grow. Preschool Teachers may work in a variety of child development facilities including Head Start, preschools, public and private elementary schools, child care centers, corporate sponsored centers, and family child care homes. Students may seek jobs as classroom teachers or teaching assistants, become directors of child care centers, or open their own child care center. Both Head Start teachers and teacher assistants in Tennessee’s lottery-funded preschool programs are asked to get a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA). Students in the Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education program prepare for a career in the child care and preschool industry by learning about young children and how to teach and care for them. Our students have the opportunity to work closely with education faculty and get hands on experience through clinical courses.

Career Median Salary
Preschool Teacher $22,680

Salaries are based on information provided from the U.S. Dept. of Labor. Salaries are not guaranteed.
