Program/Career Description
The Tennessee Board of Regents is pleased to announce the approval of a new program - the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AASN) to be offered through the Regents Online Degree Program (RODP). This program will prepare nurses to write the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX-RN) to obtain the title of Registered Nurse (RN) and will directly impact the nursing shortage which critically affects Tennessee and the nation.
The RODP AASN program is for individuals working in healthcare who are certified/licensed healthcare providers. Theory course work is completed online while clinical and labs are offered on-ground provided by the designated home school.
The program is designed to prepare a graduate with the entry-level skills and knowledge needed to assume the role of a registered nurse and succeed on the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN). The graduate provides and manages patient care, functions as a member of the health care team, and adheres to legal and ethical standards of professional nursing practice. Graduates practice in hospitals, clinics, and extended-care facilities and may continue their nursing education to the bachelors, masters, and doctoral levels through a variety of educational articulation options.
Applicants applying for this program must meet program academic requirements, complete required development coursework, complete required pre-requisite biology courses, possess an unencumbered Tennessee license/certification, submit a RODP Nursing program application by the specified deadline, complete the JSCC Nursing admission requirements, and take an admission exam prior to being formally accepted into the program. Admission selection is competitive and is based on a point system. A new class is admitted twice a year and the deadline for program application is April 1 (fall admission) and September 1 (spring admission). Details of the admission process and point system are available in the Department of Nursing. RODP Nursing application and program information can be found online at www.RODP.org
