Social Sciences
Welcome to the Department of Social Sciences. We offer a wide range of courses and areas of concentration/emphasis in Criminal Justice, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration, Social Work and Sociology. These areas of emphasis will not only provide you the first two years (A.A.& A.S.) of a four-year degree (B.A. & B.S.), but our courses also prepare you for our career programs (A.A.S.) offered on our campuses and give you knowledge and academic experience that future employers desire.
Graduates in our department earn the Associate of Science degree or an Associate of Arts degree with a concentration/area of emphasis in the professions listed on the left. Should you choose a career program our courses lead to an Associate of Applied Science degree or a technical certificate.
We look forward to providing you with the educational opportunities which will prepare you to achieve your academic or career goals. The department's courses are offered at all Jackson State campuses, by video, and online. In addition to teaching exciting and rigorous academic courses, the faculty of the Department of Social Sciences sponsor student organizations, offer honors program courses and colloquia, and collectively the current members hold the most doctoral degrees of any academic department at JSCC.
