Program and Career Description
Careers in law typically require a bachelor’s degree and three years in law school. A variety of career opportunities are available in criminal law, civil law, international law and, with a bachelor’s degree, as a paralegal. The Pre-Law program at JSCC prepares students for transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a career as an attorney, a paralegal, or in a related field such as mediation.

Transfer Options
At Jackson State, we work hard to make sure that you graduate with your associate’s degree and arrive at a university prepared to start junior-level courses. That’s why we have special articulation agreements with Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) schools that allow students completing the Associate of Arts/Science Pre-Law degree to transfer as juniors. TBR universities with Pre-Law degrees include:
- Middle Tennessee State University
- Tennessee State University
- Tennessee Tech University
- The University of Memphis
Other schools in West Tennessee with pre-law degrees include the University of Tennessee at Martin and Union University. Students may require additional courses at these universities prior to becoming a junior.
