Program and Career Description

The EMT-Paramedic is a professional EMS Provider. He/she completed the Basic EMT requirements plus the educational requirements for licensure as a Paramedic. The Paramedic Program is a fifteen month program that includes classroom, clinical, and field instruction. Paramedics are responsible for all Basic EMT skills plus Advanced Life Support Skills such as medication administration, endotracheal intubation, ECG monitoring and interpretation, defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion, comprehensive patient assessment, and advanced management of medical and trauma emergencies. EMT-Paramedics are licensed by the Tennessee Department of Health, Division of Emergency Medical Services.

Graduates of the EMT-Paramedic program may apply credit earned toward certain Associate of Applied Science degrees; check with your advisor for more information.

Accreditation Information

The EMT-Paramedic Program is authorized by the Division of Emergency Medical Services of the Tennessee Department of Health. The EMT-Paramedic Certificate is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs in cooperation with the Committee on Accreditation for Emergency Medical Services Professionals (CoAEMSP 1248 Harwood Rd., Bedford, TX, 76021 800-874-5651). Jackson State Community College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
