Nursing Program Admission Selection Criteria
- Once the student has met the conditions of eligibility, the nursing application can be considered.
- Every eligible applicant is assigned an admission score which is based on ACT scores (75%) and cumulative GPA (25%).
- Bonus points may be added to the admission score if the student has successfully passed Anatomy & Physiology I or II within the past five years.
- Additional points may also be added for recent prior experience in health care related field and documentation proving residence within one of the fourteen counties in our service area (see list below).
- All eligible applicants are then ranked according to their admission scores. The top 80 applicants are offered admission.
- Because of this competitive ranking system, there are no minimum ACT or GPA numbers which will guarantee acceptance.
- If accepted into the nursing program, students will be required to comply with other program-specific requirements.

Nursing Application
Turn in a Nursing Program Admission Application form by the correct deadline. The application deadline is February 1 for the fall semester and June 15 for the spring semester. In order for every applicant to have an equal chance of being accepted, a waiting list is no kept for the nursing program. Students must reapply to be considered for the next enrollment cycle.
February 1 is the application deadline for the LPN-RN Career Mobility Option.
ACT Exam
Current ACT scores are used as part of the nursing application. ACT scores are only valid for a three-year period from the application deadline. Students with test scores more than three years old are required to retake the exam. Students earn points in the admission point system with a score of 19 or above in their ACT composite, reading, and science sections.
Residual test: ACT instructions. Please note that students may only take the JSCC residual test once per nursing admissions cycle.
National Test: Students may take the national ACT at www.actstudent.org and have their scores sent to JSCC. Please make sure ACT scores have been received the JSCC Admissions office by the appropriate application deadline. Students who have taken the ACT exam within the last three years must request scores be sent to JSCC Admission Office. Scores must be received by the application deadline.
Cumulative GPA
Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater to be considered for the nursing program. The cumulative GPA is calculated from all undergraduate college-level coursework attempted from all colleges. It does not include any learning support (developmental) coursework.
