At JSCC, Distance Education refers to course work offered online, which removes many of the place constraints of face-to-face education.

What is Distance (Online) Education?

Some distance education courses are offered online, some are delivered distance learning interactive television, some are offered by College-by-Video, self-paced, or video-tape based, and some use a combination of approaches. [More Information]

What Are College-by-Video Courses?

College-by-Video classes are offered via DVD or VHS cassettes through a structured self-pace program. Students maybe required to return to campus for exams.

What Skills Do Online Students Need to Be Successful?

JSCC's online classes use eLearn, a course management system, to store course materials. Accessing your class in eLearn requires that you use a web browser. The easiest way to access your online course is to log into eLearn from the JSCC home page.

What is Distance Education?

Distance education courses at JSCC vary. Some courses are offered for credit while others are non-credit or offered for . Some distance learning courses are offered online, some are offered through College-by-Video, some are web-enhanced, and some use a combination of approaches. Some professors require attendance at an on-campus orientation or require major tests to be taken on campus in the Academic Assistance Center.

Some distance education courses are self-paced, which enables you to work through assignments entirely at your own pace. Most courses, however, have set assignment and assessment dates, and deadlines for reading or viewing course materials. You can set your own schedule… as long as you meet the professor's due dates.
