Fire Science Technology

We entrust emergency workers to preserve life and property. The nature of these jobs is becoming more and more technical. Therefore, the importance of education is playing an increasing role in the preparation of today's emergency workers.

Jackson State Community College will begin offering online Fire Science Courses beginning October 21, 2013. Fire Prevention (FIRE 1130) will be the first course offered. This course provides fundamental knowledge relating to the field of fire prevention.

FIRE 1130 topics include:

  • History and philosophy of fire prevention
  • Organization and operation of a fire prevention bureau
  • Use and application of codes and standards
  • Plans review
  • Fire inspections
  • Fire and safety education
  • Fire investigation

Plans are to offer other Fire Science courses over the next several semesters including:

  • Building Construction for Fire Protection (FIRE 2120)
  • Principles of Emergency Services (Fire 1110)
  • Principles of Fire and Emergency (Fire 1120)
  • Fire Protection System (FIRE 2110)
  • Fire Behavior and Combustion (FIRE 2130)
