Advising Center
The JSCC Advising Center is available 18 - 20 weeks during the year. The Advising Center provides quality advising for new students attending JSCC for the first time. The Advising Center is staffed by trained Master Advisers that have volunteered their services in order for students to receive the quality and comprehensive academic advising to assist them with their educational goals.
The Advising Center is a "nurturing first step" for all new students. Once a student has declared a major and has used the services of the Advising Center, the student will be assigned a permanent advisor during the fall or spring semester. Beginning the 2002 fall semester students can only take 18 credit hours as "non-degree" status.
The Advising Center strives to perform "quality advising" to our new students during the open registration periods for the fall, spring and summer semesters/sessions. Student's advisors will be posted at various locations on campus, Nelms Classroom Building, Science Building, McWherter Center, and the Student Union Building. Once a student has an assigned advisor the student must see his/her advisor to register for classes the following semester. After students have meet with their advisor and discussed "their academic planning and goals" for the next semester, students may opt to go on the Web and register or visit the Advising Center for data entry. Several faculty are master advisers as well, and once the student has meet with his/her advisor the faculty advisor may "data entry" the student's schedule.
