How do I know if I need to take a confirmation test?
If you do not have the minimum required ACT or PLAN score you will not be eligible to take college level courses. You will however have the option to take/re-take the National ACT($35) or take a Confirmation test in the Assessment Center here at Jackson State. ($5 per subject area.) Students will know immediately after testing if they have successfully tested into college level and are now eligible to take Dual Studies classes.
How can I prepare for the Confirmation test?
Students can visit the following test preparation websites:
www.actstudent.org/testprep/
http://www.testprepreview.com/compass_practice.htm
Please click here for more information and available test dates.
What do I do on test day?
- You will need to come in early to allow time to check-in at the front counter of Admissions
- Bring a valid photo ID and your social security number to log-in on your test computer
- Pay your test fee at the Business Services counter ($5 per section - up to $15)
- Bring your receipt to the Assessment Center in the Student Union Bldg. and take your test
- Bring your test scores to the Dual Studies Office to go over your results (across the hall from testing center)
I just took my Confirmation test and I did not assess into college level classes. Can I still participate in the program somehow?
Not for that semester, but you should be prepared to have your counselor submit any new ACT scores to the Dual Studies Office in order to be reconsidered for the following semester.
I was just accepted into the program! Can I register for my Dual Studies classes online?
No. You must allow the Dual Studies staff to process all aspects of enrollment. We will sign you up for your courses and send the final class list to your high school counselor. You SHOULD verify that you have been signed up for your desired course(s).
Do I need to get a picture ID made?
Yes! All JSCC students should get a picture ID made - especially those taking classes on campus. ID cards allow students access to JSCC resources and they may also allow students to receive discounts with businesses where college IDs are accepted. Please click here for more information and a Student ID Schedule.
What if I need to drop my course?
You must notify your counselor and contact the Dual Studies Office to officially drop your course.
I am about to graduate and become a full-time JSCC student! What do I need to do now?
If you plan to enroll here at JSCC after you graduate you will need to...
- Complete and submit a change of major form to our Records Office to formally declare your major
- Request that your counselor send your final high school transcript to the Admissions/Records Office that shows your date of graduation, final GPA and all ACT scores
- Be sure to check on your financial aid status through the Finacial Aid Office on the school campus. You should complete your free financial aid application FAFSA online at the same time your parents file their taxes.
- Register for your classes in person with the help of an advisor on campus.
I am going to attend another college and I want to transfer my credits, what do I need to do?
You will need to complete steps 2 through 4 from above as well as a transcript request form to have your JSCC transcript, and any possible credits, sent to that school. You should verify that they have received your transcript in their Admissions/Records office and ask how many of your JSCC credits they will accept.
When do I register for my JSCC classes?
The registration dates vary:
- If you took a Dual Studies class in the spring semester of the year you graduated, you will be able to register early during the Priority Registration dates.
- If you did not take a Dual Studies class during the year you graduated, you will have to wait until Open Registration dates begin. You should check the Academic Calendar every semester to verify your 1st day to register.
I have a class on campus. Do I need to register my vehicle and get a parking Decal?
Yes. If a vehicle is parked on our campus, security will need to know whose it is. They will ticket any unknown vehicles without decals, so be sure to have yours on display in any vehicle that you drive to campus. Please click here for access to the Vehicle Registration form and a list of services provided in our Business Office.
