Doris A. Morton

Doris begin her secondary education at Jackson State Community College in the fall of 1989.  Although she felt some trepidation because she was a non-traditional student, she did not let this deter her from her goal.  The teachers that she had at Jackson State were an inspiration to her and were always available to help smooth the way.  She graduated with honors in May of 1992 with an Associates degree in Pre-law.  She began at what was then Memphis State University in the fall of 1992 with a major in political science and a minor in English.  She was a very dedicated student.  Not only did she live in Jackson and work a full time job all night, but she drove to Memphis three days a week to attend classes.  She did well in class, but the Lord had other ideas.  Due to illness and the eventual death of her car she had to withdraw from classes.  She took time off to get married and have a beautiful baby girl.

In the fall of 2000, she returned to the classroom to complete her degree.  She attended the University of Memphis, however, the classes were all at Jackson State Community College which made it much more convenient.  She received her Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education in 2002 graduating with honors.  She is currently in her eighth year of employment at Andrew Jackson Intermediate school as a regular education teacher.

The classroom beckoned her yet again in the fall of 2005.  She will graduate in the fall of 2009 with her Master's degree in Advanced Elementary Education from the University of Tennessee at Martin.  She does not plan to stop here, as  she would like to one day receive her doctorate in education.
