James E. Harvison, Jr.

James E. Harvison, Jr. is a native of Jackson, Tennessee, and graduated from South Side High School. After graduating from high school he wanted to further his education. He decided to attend Jackson State Community College in 1978. After the first year at Jackson State Community College, his father became critically ill and James moved to Houston, Texas. He moved back to Tennessee determined to complete his degree. He began his studies in 1980 and completed his Associate of Science Degree in 1982.

After several years of procrastination, he decided he needed additional education. He attended Freed-Hardeman University and completed his Bachelors of Science in Arts and Humanities in 2004. Being active in the community and working with youth, he felt compelled to seek another degree. Teaching, working with troubled youth and adults, volunteering and being a good listener enhanced his desire to pursue a degree in counseling. He is currently completing his Masters in Counseling.

As you can see, his determination to achieve was of great importance. The wonderful experience at Jackson State Community College emphasized his need to challenge himself and reach for dreams. A magnificent surge for learning was instilled from the beginning at Jackson State Community College.
