Generals Basketball Head Coach
DERON HINES enters his thirteenth season as Jackson State Community College's basketball coach. During his tenure at Jackson State Community college, the Generals have compiled a 196-113 record, have won 2 TJCCAA Western Division championships and have spent several seasons ranked in the NJCAA top 20.
The Generals have become perennial contenders in the TJCCAA and NJCAA Region 7 under Hines' watch. Most recently, JSCC finished 15-9 and ranked as high as 14th in the NJCAA Division I poll during the 2010-2011 basketball season.
In the 2001-2002 Season, Hines guided the Generals to their first ever TJCCAA Western Division Championship. During that championship season the Generals also finished as TJCCAA Runners-up, NJCAA Region VII Runners-up, and a final ranking of twelfth in the NJCAA Division I Poll. Coach Hines was also honored as the Western Division Coach of the year and NJCAA Region VII Co-Coach of the year.
During the 2003-2004 season, the Generals finished as TJCCAA Western Division Co-Champions. Jackson State finished 22-6 during that campaign.
Before his stint at Jackson State, Hines was an Assistant Coach at Union College in Barbourville, KY from 1994-1999. The Bulldogs went 88-71 in those five seasons, highlighted by a 20-12 record and a top 20 ranking in the NAIA Division I Poll during the 1996-97 campaign.
Hines also spent one year as a graduate assistant coach at the University of North Alabama during the 1993-94 season. The Lions were 24-6 that year, won the Gulf South Conference, advanced to the NCAA Division II "Sweet Sixteen", and achieved a top 20 NCAA Division II ranking.
As an undergraduate, Hines played for his father Dr. Douglas Hines (a former Adolf Ruff assistant) at Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration at MC in 1989. Hines received his Master's Degree in Education from the University of North Alabama in 1994.
