Head Coach Steve CornelisonSteve Cornelison , Head Coach

Steve Cornelison enters his tenth season as Jackson State's baseball coach. Cornelison is continuing a tradition of excellence that has become "Generals Baseball". No stranger to Jackson State, Cornelison played from 1992-93 for the Generals under former coach, Bubba Cates (Tennessee-Martin). During his career at Jackson State, the Generals enjoyed a combined record of 59-36, and were the TJCCAA Region VII Tournament Runner-Up in 1993. As a sophomore, Cornelison was honored as All Western Division, All TJCCAA, and Honorable Mention All American.

Before returning to Jackson, Cornelison spent five seasons at Austin Peay State University, as a player from 1993-95 and as a member of the APSU coaching staff from 1995-98. During his stay at APSU the Governors won two Ohio Valley Conference titles and participated in the 1996 NCAA South II Regional Championship in Baton Rouge, La.

In nine seasons Cornelison has seen over 60 former players sign scholarships to continue their college careers at four year colleges and universities and had numerous players receive all conference, state, region, and national awards.

Cornelison earned a Associate of Science Degree from Jackson State in 1993, a Bachelor of Science in 1995 and a Master of Science in 1998 from Austin Peay. He and his wife, Hope, have two children. Abby is nine years old and Trae is seven.

Cornelison also serves as the Director of Athletics for Jackson State Community College.

 

Coach Deron HinesDeron Hines, Coach

Coach Deron Hines enters his ninth year as Jackson State Community College's basketball coach. During his tenure at Jackson State Community college, the Generals have compiled a 144-70 record, have won 2 TJCCAA Western Division championships and have spent several seasons ranked in the NJCAA top 20. The Generals have become perennial contenders in the TJCCAA and NJCAA Region 7 under Hines’ watch.

In the 2001-2002 Season, Hines guided the Generals to their first ever TJCCAA Western Division Championship. During that championship season the Generals also finished as TJCCAA Runners-up, NJCAA Region VII Runners-up, and a final ranking of twelfth in the NJCAA Division I Poll. Coach Hines was also honored as the Western Division Coach of the year and NJCAA Region VII Co-Coach of the year.
Before his stint at Jackson State, Hines was an Assistant Coach at Union College in Barbourville, KY from 1994-1999. The Bulldogs went 88-71 in those five seasons, highlighted by a 20-12 record and a top 20 ranking in the NAIA Division I Poll during the 1996-97 campaign.

Hines also spent one year as a graduate assistant coach at the University of North Alabama during the 1993-94 season. The Lions were 24-6 that year, won the Gulf South Conference, advanced to the NCAA Division II "Sweet Sixteen", and achieved a top 20 NCAA Division II ranking.

As an undergraduate, Hines played for his father Dr. Douglas Hines (a former Adolf Ruff assistant) at Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration at MC in 1989. Hines received his Master's Degree in Education from the University of North Alabama in 1994.

 Michael Winders, Head Coach

Michael Winders will begin his second season as the Generals softball coach, and his first as the Lady Generals basketball coach. Last season saw the softball team place one player to the all TJCCAA Conference 3rd team and five on the TJCCAA all academic team. Winders began his playing career at JSCC under current head baseball coach and athletic director Steve Cornelison. He was named to the All West TJCCAA team and All State TJCCAA team as a freshman. Winders finished his playing career at Lambuth University. While at Lambuth, the eagles won the 2003 Mid-South conference championship and appeared in two Region XI tournaments.

Winders served as an assistant for the Generals baseball team from 2005 thru 2007. The 2005 team won the TJCCAA conference championship. The 2008 season saw the Generals softball team improve their winning percentage over 150 points from the previous year.

Winders received his Bachelor of Science degree from Lambuth University in 2005 and is currently working toward his masters through the University of Memphis. He is married to the former Jennifer Todd of Jackson. They have one son, Carter (1).
