Medical Coding: Anatomy and Physiology
This is the first course in the Medical Coding Program and is only offered in the Fall Semester. It provides a study of the structure and function of the human body utilizing a system approach. Emphasis is placed on the gross and microscopic anatomy as well as the physiology of the cell, skeletal, muscular, nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, urinary, reproductive, endocrine, and digestive systems.

Medical Coding: Medical Terminology
This is the second course in the Medical Coding Program and is only offered in the Fall Semester. It is designed to teach students to accurately spell and define common medical terms related to major disease processes, diagnostic procedures, laboratory tests, abbreviations, drugs, and treatment modalities.
Prerequisites: Successful completion of Medical Coding: Anatomy and Physiology or the passing of the Medical Coding: Anatomy and Physiology Challenge Exam.

Medical Coding: ICD-9
This is the third course offered in the Medical Coding Program and is only offered in the Spring Semester. This course will address basics regarding the structure, rules, and guidelines for correct ICD-9-CM coding. Students must also be able to apply medical terminolgy, body systems, disease processes, and operative procedures. Objectives of the course include: provide a basic introduction to ICD-9-CM coding; demonstrate ways to locate ICD-9-CM codes in the index; illustrate how to apply coding guidelines to ensure accurate code assignments; and identify documentation necessary for code assignments.
Prerequisites: Successful completion of Medical Coding: Medical Terminology or the passing of the Medical Coding: Medical Terminology Challenge Exam.

Medical Coding: CPT-4
This is the final course offered in the Medical Coding Program in the Spring Semester. This course is designed for students with no prior CPT coding knowledge or experience. Students must also be able to apply medical terminology, body systems, disease processes, and operative procedures. Objectives of this course include: provide a basic introduction to CPT coding format and conventions; demonstrate different ways to locate CPT codes using the index; illustrate how to apply coding guidelines to ensure accurate code assignments; identify documentation necessary for code assignment.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Medical Coding: ICD-9.


Hispanic Folk Practices and the Healthcare Community
This course is a three-hour workshop to help healthcare professionals understand the concepts of folk practices, worldviews, and the effect of Hispanic culture on patient behavior.

How to Manage Problem Employees

Essentials of Human Resource Management
A true introductory course in human resource management, this course will provide participants with a broad overview of the human resource function.  Key topic areas include:  essentials of human resource management, employment law in your workplace, effective recruitment and selection techniques, basics of compensation, orienting and training your employees, and ensuring quality performance.  This course is designed for entry-level human resource professionals, those exploring human resource as a career field, and for line-managers who have human resource responsibilities.  It is also appropriate for human resource professionals, such as staffing specialists, whose experience has been in a single function area.

Basics of eBay Selling
Learn to make a supplemental or full-time income from an eBay-trained Certified Education Specialist.  This multimedia course will include eBay Univeristy's own training materials and will cover selling basics and beyond, including research, opening and using a Paypal account, improving your listings with better descriptions and digital photography, security and post-sale activities such as billing and shipping. 

Today's Teller:  Bank Teller Training
This course not only includes bank and teller functions, but also touches on topics such as:  professionalism, communication, and customer service.  Course materials are provided by the American Institute of Banking and presented by a bank professional.   

Certified Home Inspection
This intensive 90-hour course is set up to prepare individuals interested in home inspection to be successful in completing the new state requirements to become a licensed home inspector in Tennessee.  Individuals will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to perform home inspections, open their own business or upgrade their present business.  The course covers the inspection process, structure and site improvements, appliances, plumbing, electrical, and heating and cooling systems.  Participants will learn how to write inspection reports and start a home inspection business.  The course also includes several actual on-site home inspections and a mock state exam. 

First Responders and Ritualistic Scenes
This workshop focuses on the diverse number of religious cultures that police, firemen, and EMS may encounter when responding to calls involving unfamiliar religious cultures.  Special focus is placed on religious groups such as Neo-Pagan Wicca, Santeria, and Curanderismo.  Students will learn about interacting with sacred spaces, ceremonies, sacred objects, and cultural taboos.  Responders will learn to properly assess situations, open lines of communication, protect cultural diversity and beliefs, and, above all, provide effective emergency treatment.

Pharmacy Technician Program
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:  Participants should have taken math and science in high school.  A high school diploma or GED is required to sit for the PTCB exam.
This comprehensive 50-hour course will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board's PTCB exam.  Technicians work in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies and other health care settings - working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.  Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names.  Students will learn dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control, and billing and reimbursement.

Phlebotomy Technician Program
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:  People interested in becoming Phlebotomists should have a high school diploma or GED.
This 90-hour Phlebotomy Technician Program prepares professionals to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis.  Students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely.  Classroom and lab work includes terminology, anatomy and physiology, blood collection procedures, specimen hands-on practice, and training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods.  Note:  There is no outside externship rotation included with this program.
