The Higher Education Act of 1965 as regulated by the Department of Education in Washington, DC legislates an institution that participates in Federal Student Aid Programs and other state/ local programs to disseminate certain information to all students (current and perspective). The requirements for dissemination are contained in Public Law 105-244 and the Higher Education Amendments of 1998.

Family Education & Privacy Act (FERPA) Disclosure

FERPA, also know as the Buckley Amendment, was passed by Congress in 1974 and later amended several times. It gives students the right to:

Drug & Alcohol Abuse Prevention Disclosure

This disclosure requires that, as a condition of receiving funds or any other form of financial assistance under any Federal Program, an institution of higher education, state education agency, or local agency must certify that is has adopted and implemented a drug prevention program. Information must be disseminated to students, faculty, and employees in accordance with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 (Public Law 101-690).

Institutional Programs & Policies Disclosure

Information on this disclosure is primary available in the Jackson State Community College Catalog and Financial Aid Consumer Information Handbook. This disclosure provides general information related to Jackson State's mission, cost of attendance, academic programs, accrediting agencies, special services for disabled students, procedures to withdraw from school, refund policies, and the return of Federal Title IV funds, and the availability of employees responsible for the dissemination of this information. Financial Assistance Disclosure

This information will provide access to all available federal, state, local, private, and institutional financial need-based and non-need-based financial assistance programs. Information on this disclosure is available in the Financial Aid Consumer Information Handbook, the $cholarships and Financial Aid Brochure, the Jackson State Foundation Scholarship Application, and the Financial Aid Services Information Flyer published through the Office of Financial Aid Services at Jackson State. Completion/Graduation Rates Disclosure

This disclosure requires the institution to make available information about completion or graduate rates, and transfer-out rates for the general student body. The rates must include the cohort of certificate or degree seeking, full-time undergraduates who graduated or completed their program with 150% of the normal time for graduation or completion.

Athletic Completion & Complete Rates Disclosure

Regulations requires an institution that participates in Student Financial Aid Programs and offer athletically related student aid to provide information on completion rates, transfer-out rates, and other consumer information to potential student athletes, their parents, high school coaches, and guidance counselors. The rates must include certificate or degree seeking, full-time undergraduates who graduated or completed their program within 150% of the normal time for graduation or completion.

Campus Security Disclosure

The institution must be committed to providing students with a safe environment in which to learn. Students and parents must be well informed about campus security. Annual campus security reports must be published by September 1. For reporting purposes, schools must distinguish, by means of separate categories, any criminal offense that occur on campus, in or on a non-campus building, on public property, and in dormitories or other residential facilities for students on campus. The law requires that each institution maintaining a police or security department must make, keep and maintain a daily log.

Report on Athletic Program Participation & Financial Support Data Disclosure

The Higher Education Act through the 1998 Amendments requires Jackson Sate to disseminate this report to a student and the student's parent at the time the institution offers the student athletically-related student aid. This disclosure must contain the number and gender of full-time undergraduates participating in intercollegiate athletic competitions and for each term. Additionally, the institution will be required to include information on coaches, coaching salaries, and the revenues and expenses associated with each sport.
