Other Financial Aid Programs

Private Scholarships

These are offered through many civic groups and businesses. You are encouraged to investigate these possibilities.

Federal Perkins Loan

This loan is available to only a few students who meet the need-based criteria and who apply by the March 15 priority deadline. This loan has a five percent interest rate and has several repayment options available. Students are ranked according to exceptional financial need when recipients are selected. Loan amounts are usually in the $1,000 - $2,600 range for each one-year period. This is the only federal student loan program in which Jackson State participates.

Vocational Rehabilitation Grants

These grants are offered through the Department of Human Services (DHS) to students with disabilities. Check with the local DHS office in your county for more information. Applicants are asked to apply, first, for the Federal Pell Grant and then furnish the DHS caseworker copies of the Student Aid Report.

Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Benefits

These job training funds are available to students who are dislocated workers or who are certified as economically or educationally disadvantaged. For more information, contact the WIA Administrative Office at 731-989-0522 or 1-800-572-5782.
