Jackson, Tenn. -- The piano and guitar will come together in a symphony of Latin music at a free concert at Jackson State Community College 6:30 p.m. on February 10 in Ayers Auditorium of the McWherter Center. “Duo Guitiano” is sponsored by the school’s Spanish Club and the Department of English and Foreign Languages.

The feature performers are Carlos Castilla from Columbia, an adjunct Spanish professor at Lane College, who will be performing on Spanish guitar, and his wife Amanda Virelles, chair of the music department at Lane, who plays the piano. Castilla’s repertoire includes Latin pieces from the classical, romantic, Baroque and contemporary periods as well as some original works. Virelles is a Cuban-born piano virtuoso who has performed with symphonies all over the world. The two will play solos for piano and guitar as well as duets from their album “Tradicion Hispana” as well as other pieces that they have arranged as duets.

Jackson State is proud to sponsor the concert in efforts to bring cultural diversity to the campus and to share Hispanic heritage with the surrounding community. Admission is free and open to the public. Free refreshments will be served at intermission.
