Jackson, Tenn. – Jackson State Community College will present a film and lecture as part of its Arts and Sciences Honors Program Series on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Noon in the Math and Science Building Auditorium. The focus of the session will be “The Psychology of Racism,” a discussion about the psychological aspects of hate, bigotry, and intolerance.
Attendees will first view a half-hour documentary film entitled “An Unlikely Friendship” which chronicles the life-long friendship between Ann Atwater, a black civil rights activist, and C.P. Ellis, the Grand Cyclops of the KKK in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Bob Raines, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychology, will discuss the psychological aspects of racism and the antidote to dehumanization – empathy.
