Jackson State Alum Drafted by San Diego Padres

Jackson, Tenn. -- Former Jackson State catcher, Luis Martinez, was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 12th round (380th overall pick) on the second day of the MLB draft. He was previously drafted in 2005 by the New York Mets, but chose to remain at Jackson State.

While in Jackson, Martinez was chosen All-TJCCAA (Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association) first team his freshman and sophomore years. He received a scholarship to play baseball at Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN.
