Jackson, Tenn. -- Jackson State Community College is pleased to announce that Michael Winders, has been hired full time to coach the Lady Generals softball and basketball teams. Winders served as interim coach in the softball program last year.
'We are pleased to have Michael at Jackson State again. He had success with the softball program last year as interim head coach and I know he will bring the same success to women's basketball,' said Steve Cornelison, JSCC's athletic director and head baseball coach.
Under the coaching of Winders last season, the softball team placed one player on the All-TJCCAA conference third team and five players on the academic all conference team. The team improved their winning percentage over 150 points.
Winders began his playing career at JSCC under Cornelison where he was named to the All-West TJCCAA team and the All-State TJCCAA team as a freshman. He finished his playing career at Lambuth University contributing to the Eagles' 2003 Mid-South Conference Championship win and appearance in two Region XI tournaments.
Winders received his bachelor of science degree from Lambuth in 2005 and is currently working on a master's degree through the University of Memphis. He is married to the former Jennifer Todd of Jackson and they have one son, Carter.
The Lady Generals basketball team opens their season on the road on Nov. 3 and at home on Nov. 14. The Lady Generals softball team plays its first regular season game on the road in Gallatin on March 12 and at home on March 14.
