STEVE CORNELISON has served as the Jackson State athletic director since the summer of 2003. No stranger to Jackson State, Cornelison played from 1992-93 for the Generals under former coach, Bubba Cates (Tennessee-Martin). During his playing career at Jackson State, the Generals enjoyed a combined record of 59-36, and were the TJCCAA Region VII Tournament Runner-Up in 1993. As a sophomore, Cornelison was honored as All Western Division, All TJCCAA, and Honorable Mention All American.

Before returning to Jackson, Cornelison spent five seasons at Austin Peay State University, as a player from 1993-95 for current head coach Gary McClure and as a member of the APSU coaching staff from 1995-98. During his stay at APSU the Governors won two Ohio Valley Conference titles and participated in the 1996 NCAA South II Regional Championship in Baton Rouge, La.

In fourteen seasons as head baseball coach, Cornelison averaged over 30 wins per season and had over 100 former players sign scholarships to continue their playing careers at four year colleges and universities. During this time he has had numerous players earn conference, state, region and national awards. Additionally, Cornelison has had 10 players sign professional contracts. His 2005 team won the TCCAA Conference title with a record of 38-19 and his 2007 team tied a school record of wins in a season at 39.

Cornelison earned an Associate of Science Degree from Jackson State in 1993, a Bachelor of Science in 1995 and a Master of Science in 1998 from Austin Peay. He and his wife, Hope, a Jackson State graduate, have two children.  Abby (14) and Trae (12).

A Jackson, TN native, Cornelison graduated from Southside High School and played for baseball and basketball for coach Johnny Growe.

Cornelison also oversees Student Activities, Student Government, and serves as an Associate Professor in the department of Education / Physical Education.
