Steve Cornelison enters his seventh season as Jackson State's baseball coach. Cornelison is continuing a tradition of excellence that has become "Generals Baseball". No stranger to Jackson State, Cornelison played from 1992-93 for the Generals under former coach, Bubba Cates (Tennessee-Martin). During his career at Jackson State, the Generals enjoyed a combined record of 59-36, and were the TJCCAA Region VII Tournament Runner-Up in 1993. As a sophomore, Cornelison was honored as All Western Division, All TJCCAA, and Honorable Mention All American.
Before returning to Jackson, Cornelison spent five seasons at Austin Peay State University, as a player from 1993-95 and as a member of the APSU coaching staff from 1995-98. During his stay at APSU the Governors won two Ohio Valley Conference titles and participated in the 1996 NCAA South II Regional Championship in Baton Rouge, La.
In six seasons Cornelison has seen over 30 former players sign scholarships to continue their college careers at four year colleges and universities and had numerous players receive all conference, state, and region awards.
Cornelison earned a Associate of Science Degree from Jackson State in 1993, a Bachelor of Science in 1995 and a Master of Science in 1998 from Austin Peay. He and his wife, Hope, have two children--Abby and Trae.
Cornelison also serves as the Director of Athletics and Student Activities for Jackson State Community College.
