MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING CENTERS
Sometimes we just need someone to talk to. Jackson State Community College offers brief counseling services free to currently enrolled students. The counseling office is located in room 13 of the Student Union Building. The counseling office accepts walk-ins or appointments.
If further assistance is needed, the community offers both public and private services. The link below is a list of agencies and organizations you may find helpful. It is important to note that it is a generic list of offices covering the Jackson State Community College service area. This is not a preference list but rather an available list for someone shopping for services.

Please keep in mind that students are responsible for the cost of these services. Students are, therefore, encouraged to use effective strategies in making a decision on therapeutic services, including checking the license and scope of practice of the service provider. When searching for a counselor, one needs to check insurance coverage and costs. Many insurance carriers require referrals and lack of referral may prevent payment for services. There is often a limit of yearly uses of behavioral services.
There are a few things to remember. In some cases, a client *MUST* be a resident of the county/area in order to qualify for services at a community mental health counseling center. A fee/deposit may be required up front in both private and community centers. Full payment may be expected, or partial payment with promissory agreement to pay what insurance/state does not cover. Again, students are responsible for the cost of these services.* * *Services are by appointment. A person is generally assigned a counselor-therapist at initial consultation.
