SGA Meeting: March 26, 2008

SGA Meeting # 11
3/26/08

Those present were as follows: Bill Mathews, Christina Brown, Candace Burton, Beth Grissom, Nicole McCoy, Kevin Newhouse, Steve Cornelison, Annette Deaton, Linda Nickell, and Zack Livelli.

Those not present were as follows: Joey Velie, Jennifer Brown, and representation from the office of Student Services.

Call to Order
SGA President, Kevin called the meeting to order at 2:06pm.

Reading of the Minutes
SGA Secretary, Bill Mathews read the minutes from the previous meeting. SGA V.P. Beth Grissom made a motion to accept the minutes as read. Commissioner Candace Burton seconded the motion and all were for: minutes accepted.

Alcohol Awareness
Annette Deaton said that the THP would be there with the impaired vision goggles and golf carts, Jacoa would be doing alcohol screening, NA will be there, and we would set up the tiki bar and serve mocktails.

STD information would also be available.

Steve's Announcements
Steve needed to get to baseball practice so he announced that the calendar was wrong on the awards ceremony date. The correct date is Wednesday, April 16th.

He also informed us that funding for the Alcohol Awareness Day was available through activities.

Steve told us that Humboldt was very interested in electing SGA officers there and that the Lexington campus cook-out would be April 10th from 10am-??

He also said that finals food needed to be thought about and suggested that we try to think about new ideas.


j-Web
Linda Nickell said that the College Answers Program would be held in the Student Union Building on April 14th from 4:30-6:30 and July 15th from 4:30-6:30. She said that the SGA should have a table set up for both of these events.

Ms. Nickell answered questions concerning j-Web. She said that setting up message boards would be possible and that they would do requests as they came up.

Genocides of Darfur Funding
Zachary Livelli spoke on A Nation Against Genocide. He said that the club has raised some of the money needed to have a speaker from Darfur come to JSCC and speak on the things that are happening in that country. He asked if Activities could help them come up with around $200.00 so that they would have the money needed to accomplish this goal. He told us that the plan is to have the speaker in the McWerter Building, April 9th from 12 noon through 1pm.

Alcohol Awareness Day
We need as many volunteers as possible to help with setting up for Alcohol Awareness directly after our next SGA meeting. Nicole, Kevin, Bill, Candace, and Beth all said that they would be available to help.

Tiki Bar volunteers would be needed on Thursday to mix mocktails and serve the people. The volunteer schedule is as follows: Beth from 9-9:15
Kevin 9-10:40
Candace 10:40-12
Bill 10:40-1
All help will be accepted.

Awards Ceremony
Awards Ceremony is on Wednesday, April 16th @ 6:30 in the McWerter Building. Refreshment suggestions for either before or after the ceremony or maybe both will be considered and appreciated.

Announcements
Nicole discussed the need for limited student disclosure privileges, a key to Lisa's closet, and a spring community yard sale

She also mentioned that April 16th is Earth Day and thought that we could maybe put a tri-fold display in the Student Union Building with information about it.

Nicole, again, brought up finals food. She would like to see something different and have it on the week before April 24th.

Bill announced that he had delivered all three of the Wal-Mart gift cards to the students that lost their homes in the Feb. 5th storm

He also announced that the Theater Club play, Rhinoceros, would be performed April 26th-29th at 7:00 each night.
