West Tennessee Healthcare - PC Support Specialist I - Information Systems - North Hospital

Duties

Job Summary/Scope of Responsibility:

Desktop, Mobile Device, and Peripheral Hardware Support; Primarily concerned with all aspects of computer use within a hospital to include consulting, instructing, and troubleshooting; in developing, implementing, and maintaining computer based hardware and Operating Systems software within the hospital to implement and maintain a connection, if appropriate, with the main computer system and servers of the hospital. Maintains, analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs computer systems, hardware and computer peripherals. Documents, maintains, upgrades or replaces hardware and software systems. Provides analysis related to the design, development, and implementation of hardware for products. Provides support to end users on a variety of issues, identifies, researches, and resolves technical problems. Responds to telephone calls, email and personal requests for technical support. Tracks and monitors the problem to insure a timely resolution. Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepares computers to be installed in the user areas, installs Operating Systems, installs or assists the Systems Analysts in installing standard desktop software and applications
  • Troubleshoot user complaints/problems relating to the use of computer hardware and software
  • Establish, maintain, under the guidance of the Manager of Information Systems, appropriate policies and procedures dealing with hardware/software acquisition and maintenance
  • Responsible for analyzing, classifying, and logging all Help Desk requests in to Magic Solutions. Process includes critically, resource requirements, and information provision, Tracks and monitors the problem to insure a timely resolution
  • Assists in the maintenance of the inventory listing of hardware/software for WTH
  • Maintain a large degree of visibility and availability to the WTH staff to facilitate consultations in basic hardware/software needs
  • Maintain a controlled environment for personal computer hardware and associated software
  • Maintain professional competency through research, study, and continuing education programs within and outside the hospital
  • Actively supports the six pillars of the organization: Quality Healthcare, Compassionate Customer Service, Employee Satisfaction, Financial Strength; Community Value; Ethics and Compliance Success in this endeavor will be reflected in the Quality Plus Indicators published monthly for the department.
  • Completing all hospital-wide orientation, complying with policies, and accepting personal responsibility for mandatory in-service requirements
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed 

Qualifications

Job Specifications:

Education:

  • Requires Associate's degree or equivalent work experience

Experience:

  • 1-3 years experience in the field or a related area

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Required to provide basic support for personal computers, personal computer operating systems and peripheral equipment
  • Must have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within a particular field
  • Must have strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Must demonstrate ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Must be able to follow instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively in different forms and with differing levels of audience as necessary
  • Requires the conveyance of professionalism in terms of conduct, appearance and integrity
  • Confidentiality is required. From time to time incumbents will come into contact with confidential information

  • Requires the ability to be flexible because of the changing work environment. He/she must be comfortable with change, and possess the attitude that changes for the better are necessary
  • Professional business attire is required daily, excluding special events (in-houses, classes, etc.) and/or specific project requirements (i.e. an operating room - project would require scrubs or a cover suit)

Physical Demands:

  • Speak clearly to individuals and small to medium groups, both in person and on the telephone
  • Communicate with personnel of all professional and social levels
  • Perform tasks that may involve sitting, standing and/or walking for lengthy periods
  • Ambulate daily from work area to work area within the medical center, around the medical center's campus, external client facilities, usually accompanied by carried objects such as files, note pads, writing utensils, etc.
  • Drive from facility to facility within the enterprise utilizing personal transportation
  • See, hear and read to normal range with corrections
  • Exhibit manual dexterity to a significant degree in the use of a computer, calculator and writing
  • Work under varying amounts of stress and/or irregular hours
  • Maintenance tasks occasionally requires moderate to heavy lifting

Environmental Conditions:

  • Normal inside environmental conditions (heat, air conditioning, typical office area)
  • May be exposed to short periods of time to the external environment during travel around West Tennessee Healthcare campus and to other facilities
  • Occasional exposure to cold temperatures and noise in the computer data center
  • Occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious material is not reasonably anticipated from the performance of employee's duties. Skin, eye, mucus membrane and/or parenteral contact with blood or potentially infectious material are not reasonably anticipated
  • Working are may be anywhere in the medical center, corporate campus or external client facility
  • May be exposed to changing internal environmental conditions and/or other occupational hazards (infectious material, etc.) periodically for short periods of time

Other Job Requirements:

  • Attendance is monitored, with work routines subject to change, sometimes on short notice
