Duties
The Shipping Coordinator ensures the shipping schedule is met on a daily basis and communicates with other departments as well as customers any shortages of supplies, containers or product that could affect the schedule.
Responsibilities:
Assist Shift Coordinators in planning production activities and establish production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and costs factors
Ensure shipping procedures are updated and all team members are trained in them
Serve as contact point for logistics issues to customers and suppliers, such as blowouts, late trucks, etc.
Ensure a steady supply of returnable containers and communicate any needs to the customer through the appropriate sales representative
Track usage of shipping supplies and reorder as needed
Arrange transportation for special shipments or when required, using the most cost-effective method to satisfy customer needs
Maintain files for all inbound and outbound freight
Coordinate all sample parts and service part orders from receipt through shipment, working with Quality and Production departments
Coordinate all bank builds with Production and Sales Departments to ensure the most cost-effective methods are used to fulfill customer requirements
Maintain regular attendance and punctuality
Other duties may be assigned
Directly supervises team members per shift in the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training of team members; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
Qualifications
One year certificate from college/technical school or Associates degree
Two plus years shipping and receiving experience/or training and two years supervisory experience, preferably in a team environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in production, shipping and materials within a manufacturing environment. Automotive industry experience is preferred.
Desire strong organizational skills as well as leadership skills with customer service mentality
Continuous improvement knowledge required (TPS)
Need problem solving skills and a sense of urgency
Prefer candidates with as strong materials background and experience with EDI and Oracle ERP
