Duties
Overview:
Under the direction of the Director of Patient Care Services, responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating the activities of nursing personnel and patient care needs of the Surgery Department. Responsible for the management of the Surgery Department 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Current RN licensure as approved for practice in the State of Tennessee. Three years of continuous/current clinical experience with a minimum of two years in a specialty area and/or supervision. The employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.
Responsibilities:
Schedule, assign, and monitors patient care according to acuity needs and competency of assigned personnel; schedules surgery rooms
Maintains accurate documentation and assumes responsibility for ensuring continued professional growth, department specific
Evaluates and recommends adequate supplies, equipment, and personnel necessary for the delivery of quality care and include these in budgetary requests
Evaluates, interprets, implements and accepts policies and procedures for Surgery and hospital administration to personnel, patients, and physicians
Participates in hospital committees
Reviews and evaluates performance appraisals for Surgery department, disciplines, and makes decisions as to the action to be taken in regard to unsatisfactory performance
Assumes departmental compliance with federal, state, local and THC regulations as well as compliance with approved policies, procedures, and standards
Maintains communications and ensures coordinatation of activities between other hospital departments, medical staff, and hospital administration
Responsible for Quality Plus for Surgery department, including Outpatient call-backs, review of/ response to patient complaints or commendations
Performs related responsibilities as required or directed
Qualifications
Education:
Completion of a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing with 2 years experience in surgery
Knowledge of trends and techniques in surgery
Licensure, Registration, Certification:
Current RN licensure as approved for practice in the State of Tennessee
Certification in the specialty area is preferred
ACLS required and PALS preferred
