Sonoco in Jackson - Production Associate - Night Shift

Duties

Perform visual and dimensional quality control checks of cans on a fast moving conveyor belt.  Maintain continuous running of the line by troubleshooting, clearing jams, maintaining raw materials, threading and splicing material, cleaning machinery and conveyor belts, comprehending the origin of quality issues to communicate back up the line, and locking out energy sources when necessary to perform tasks.  Keep accurate data logs of product quantity and quality both handwritten and data entry.

  • Utilize the computer, touch screen, master control panel.
  • Climb a ladder and stairwell approximately 15 times per shift, height approximately 15 to 20 feet.
  • Understand and perform visual and dimensional quality control checks. 
  • Must be able to run equipment at specified levels and temperatures.  That may involve reading gauges, micrometers, etc.
  • Effectively communicate utilizing Sonoco quality terminology on production paperwork, to trainers, and supervisor.
  • Start up and control equipment on the line.
  • Must be able to maintain continuous operation of line, which will involve basic trouble shooting, clearing jams, and splicing and threading membrane into equipment.
  • Perform housekeeping duties and make sure that area is free of unnecessary debris and trash to maintain a more safe and productive work environment.
  • Must be team oriented; will be working closely with other employees.
  • Comprehend written, oral, and computerized instructions when dealing with production schedule to be certain that correct raw material being ran on corresponds with the production schedule. 
  • Must verify code numbers on labels and membranes match production sheet.
  • Identify packaging material-layer boards, top frames, etc. for possible reuse.
  • Must be an effective communicator over the public address system.
  • Follow all safety rules.

Salary: $18.50/hour plus benefits, with a $1 night shift differential and $1 weekend shift differential ($19.50/hour)
