In this course attention will be given to the historical, philosophical, and sociological foundations underlying the American educational
institution. The role of schools and the role of local, state, and federal agencies will be emphasized. Experience will be gained in the development and use of instructional applications in technology including computers, ipads, and educational software. Field experience is
required in a classroom setting.

This course is designed to introduce teachers to the historical, legal, and pedagogical aspects of teaching individuals with special needs and gifted. This course covers children beginning pre-school age until early adulthood. The student will be introduced to Individual Education Plans (IEP) and diagnostics assessments. Field experience is required. Students must be at least 18 years of age to obtain and pass a required background check.

A study of quantitative and qualitative ways people change through infancy to adolescence. Theory, research, and application of human
development and learning processes will be studied. A special emphasis will be placed on the theories of Erikson, Piaget, and Kohlberg.
Three interviews are required with a child, adolescent ,and an adult. There is a 10-hour service learning activity required.

A study on the care and education of infants and toddlers, birth to age three in group settings (i.e. child care centers, family child care homes, Early Head Start). Topics include rationales and strategies for supporting the whole child including cognitive, language, social-emotional, and physical development in a safe, responsive environment. Emphasizes relation-based care and education with special attention to the unique environmental aspects of programs for the child under three.
