The KJ100+5K bicycle tour and run/walk are scheduled for its 20th season on Saturday, October 1. The event is hosted by the Jackson State Community College Foundation and raises funds for students with financial needs.
The bicycle tour has 14-, 32-, 62- and 100-mile routes. Both the 100-mile century and 62-mile metric-century routes will take cyclists through Pinson Mounds and Chickasaw State Parks.
In addition to the bicycle tour, a 5K run/walk will also be held on the JSCC campus. The 5K event allows family members and friends who are not cyclists to participate. Never leaving campus, participants are protected from traffic and are free to enjoy the scenery of the college campus.
Check-in on the day of the event begins at 7 a.m. The bike ride will begin at 8 a.m., and the 5K will start at 9 a.m. T-shirts are guaranteed for those who pre-register for the event, so be sure to register early!
The KJ100+5K was initially known as the Bagels and Bluegrass Bicycle Century Tour and was founded in 2001 by the prominent physician and avid cyclist Dr. Kent Jones. The event added a 5K and was renamed the Kent Jones 100 Bicycle Century Tour to memorialize and honor Dr. Jones after his passing in 2018.
While serving as chief of staff at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, Dr. Jones was instrumental in establishing JSCC’s EMT program in 1982. Since the ride’s inception in 2001, over $40,000 has been raised to help students with expenses related to attending the college.
Headquarters for the ride will be Jackson State Community College, at 2046 N. Parkway in Jackson, Tennessee. Registration will begin at 7:00 a.m. Bicycle rides start at 8:00 am for all bicycle routes. The bicycle ride registration fee is $30. Families participating in the Family Fun Ride will only be charged $40.00. The 5K run registration fee is $25. Registration includes official ride information and maps, breakfast, SAG stops with refreshments, and a ticket for a free lunch at the family fun festival. COMMEMORATIVE T-SHIRTS are guaranteed participants who preregister and included with the registration fee. Participants registering on the day of the event may purchase a shirt for $5 while supplies last. Proceeds from this event will go toward a JSCC fund to assist students.
Pre-registered riders may pick up packets at the registration area.
Jackson State Community College is located on the corner of State Highway 412 and US 70 in Jackson, Tennessee. Automobiles may be left at the Community College for the day in a designated parking area. Registration will be held in the lobby of the gymnasium on the west end of the campus.
Information regarding routes and support will be available at registration the day of the event. Showers will also be available for use if needed.
