2012 Baseball Early Signees

The Jackson State baseball program witnessed the payoff of many hours of hard work by five current players as they signed National Letters of Intent to continue their playing careers. Each played a crucial role in Jacksons 34-18 season last year and each will be counted on to lead this season.

JUAN RIVERA, a second baseman from Kissimmee, FL has decided to continue his college career as a Delta State Statesman in Cleveland, MS. Rivera had a very productive season for the Generals last year, where he was a 2nd team All-Conference player, hitting .384 with 9 2B's, 5 HR's, and 41 RBI's in his freshman season.

KANE BARROW, a 6'3'200 lb first baseman from Paris, TN has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the University of Memphis next year. Barrow is a Redshirt Sophomore who looks to have an even more outstanding year than last year. He hit .416 with 17 2B's, 12 HR's, and 68 RBI's. Barrow was also a 1st Team All-Conference and an Honorable Mention All-American in 2012.

RICHIE PEARL, a Redshirt Sophomore from Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro, TN has signed to play his next two years at Columbus State University in Columbus, GA. As a Freshman, Pearl hit .387 while leading the team with18 2B's. He also contributed8 HR's, and 66 RBI's to help him earn a spot as a 1st Team All-Conference player. Pearl also had 5 outfield assists from right field.

ALEX MARTIN, a RHP from Rossview High School in Clarksville, TN has decided to continue his pitching career for the University of Tennessee at Martin Skyhawks. Martin looks to have a bigger role and promising sophomore season with the Generals. He has had an outstanding fall and looks to continue that in the spring. Last year Martin was used in a couple different roles as a pitcher, where all together he went 1-1 and threw 25 1/3 innings with a 6.75 ERA.

MICHAEL PURCELL, a standout LHP from Waverly, TN will continue his career at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN. Purcell should play a huge part in the success of the Generals in 2013. As a freshman, Purcell went 3-1,striking out 25 in29 2/3 innings with a 3.94 ERA. Opponents batted a mere .225 off the left-hander, who also added a complete game shutout throughout the season.
