Concert Raises Funds, Awareness for Pantry

Dec 16th, 2014

Innovation, Jackson State Community Colleges choral group, performed at its Winter Concert last Friday, December 12. This was the first time in recent history the group had performed this concert on campus. The event also made strides to help others by raising funds and awareness for the JSCC Food Pantry.

The program included many solo performances from both current and past members of Innovation. The event was billed as free and open to the public. The concert was well attended and Ayers Auditorium was at approximately 75% capacity.

While admission was free, donations to the JSCC Food Pantry were suggested. Most people attending the event brought items for the pantry. At the events conclusion, Director Esther Gray Lemus advised attendees about the pantrys purpose of helping students who come up short and struggle to make ends meet. Generous contributions of attendees raised another $321 for the pantry.

The Food Pantry serves many students over the course of a year. The pantry also makes other essentials available such as clothing, personal hygiene products and gas cards. There is always a need. Contact Student Services at 731-425-8820 if you would like to contribute.
