Finney Appointed JSCC Vice President of Student Services

Dr. Bruce Blanding, president of Jackson State Community College, is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Paul L. Finney as Vice President of Student Services. The position supervises the areas of records, admissions, financial aid, testing, health services, student activities, counseling, placement services and athletics.

Finney's appointment is effective July 1. "After an exhaustive search process, we selected Paul for this position because of his extensive experience in student services and his excellent relationships with students," said Blanding. "We look forward to continuing to work together to better the lives of our students and enhance their experiences here at Jackson State."

"I am thrilled to be continuing my work here with the students at Jackson State," said Finney. "I consider it a privilege to be able to lead the dedicated professionals in the student services area that work with and for the students on a daily basis. Together, we hope to work as advocates for the students and continue to improve campus conditions and processes."

Finney has over 20 years experience in student services beginning at Lambuth University in 1968. While at Lambuth, he also worked in development and alumni affairs.

He began his association with Jackson State in 1995 in the division of continuing education and corporate services. Finney served in roles of increasing responsibility in the division working with local industry in contract training and with non-credit students on open enrollment classes.

In 2004, he was appointed to serve as interim vice president for institutional advancement and community development and as interim vice president for student services at Jackson State. He holds a bachelor's degree in history/political science from Lambuth University and a master's in education with an emphasis in guidance and personnel services from the University of Memphis.
