Honors Lecture Series - Incident at Oglala

Oct 25th, 2007

James Mayo, Associate Professor of English, will screen the award-winning documentary Incident at Oglala, which focuses on the events that took place on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota in 1975. The screening and lecture will be on Wednesday, November 14, at 3 PM in the Science Auditorium.

The documentary and our discussion will focus on the American Indian Movement (AIM), their skirmishes with the Federal Government in the 1960's and 70's, the killing of two FBI agents at Oglala, and the subsequent trial and conviction of Leonard Peltier, an AIM member accused of murdering the agents. Some feel Peltier is innocent, but many argue he at least never received a fair trial.

The documentary is 91 minutes long, and we will spend another 20 to 30 minutes in discussion.
