Jackson State Establishes Police Department

Jul 10th, 2013

Jackson State Community College has expanded its security force to a police department by hiring full-time, armed police officers.

'The decision to add armed police officers to the campus community reflects Jackson States commitment to protecting students, faculty and staff from the disturbing national trend of campus violence,' said Darron Billings, director of environmental health and safety training at Jackson State.

According to Billings, 'Jackson State has chosen to be proactive in regard to campus safety and security by replacing its unarmed security force with armed law enforcement officers.'

The Jackson State Police Department will have a mutually cooperative relationship with the Jackson Police Department assisting upon request.

On July 1, 2013, Jackson State added Brandon Dorris and Shane Young to its police department.

Dorris comes to Jackson State from the Madison County Sheriff's Department and has over nine years of experience in law enforcement.

Young comes to Jackson State from the Brownsville Police Department and has over eleven years of experience in law enforcement.
