Sep 27th, 2012

Jackson State Community College celebrated National Manufacturing Day on Friday, October 5 with a one-hour seminar beginning at 9 a.m. in Ayers Auditorium located within McWherter Center to highlight the importance of manufacturing to the nation's economy and draw attention to the many rewarding high-skill jobs available in manufacturing fields. The target audience for this years initiative is the West Tennessee high school educators. The days event is cosponsored by UT Center for Industrial Services and Tennessee Economic and Community Development.

A group of public and private organizations launched the nationwide Manufacturing Day for Oct. 5, 2012 and encouraged other organizations and associations to join with them. Jackson State, UTCIS and ECD embraces this idea, as each entity recognizes the vital role that manufacturing plays in society and the rewarding careers it provides many and appreciates the impact manufacturers bring to West Tennessee.

The educators will also tour local manufacturing firms followed by a debriefing lunch session. Due to overwhelming demand, Jackson State has reached maximum capacity on the tour R.S.V.P.s list and wont be able to accept any more participants for the tours, but encourage the entire community to attend the one-hour seminar at 9 a.m. on October 5.

'Manufacturing is a crucial part of the national economy,' said Buckley Brinkman, executive director and CEO of the WMEP. 'It drives value creation, innovation and employment throughout the country, and we want to show our communities the opportunities available in manufacturing today. Our future depends on our ability to strengthen and advance this vital sector and Manufacturing Day can accelerate that process.'
