JSCC alumnus receives scholarship

Jun 25th, 2018

Shelbi Weaver was recently awarded a $250 scholarship by the Tennessee College Public Relations Association (TCPRA). A scholarship is awarded every year at the organization's annual conference to a communications-related student chosen by the host organization. The conference was held in Jackson this year and hosted by Jackson State Community College.

Shelbi is a 2017 graduate of JSCC and is currently a journalism major at The University of Memphis Lambuth. Shelbi continues to work part time in the JSCC registration center and is currently working a 150-hour internship with the college's office of communications.

Shelbi was chosen for the scholarship by JSCC's communications faculty and the college's director of public relations and marketing. Professor Kim Warren-Cox, a former professor for Shelbi, attended the presentation of the award and spoke to the group about Shelbi's strong character and work ethic both in and out of the classroom. "I predict that one day Shelbi will be a colleague of yours and one that will be widely respected," said Warren-Cox. "Shelbi has a remarkable future."
