JSCC and U of M Sign Transfer Agreement in Business

Sep 15th, 2006

Jackson, TN - Officials from Jackson State Community College and the University of Memphis signed a formal articulation agreement for the business program in a ceremony held today at JSCC. U of M President Dr. Shirley C. Raines and JSCC President Dr. Bruce Blanding signed the 'articulation' agreement ensuring a seamless transfer of credits from JSCC's business administration major to the U of M's management major. The agreement ensures that students who follow the curriculum set up in the program will not lose credits when transferring from JSCC's associate degree program to U of M's bachelor's degree program. "This agreement will be a tremendous help to those students whose ultimate goal is to earn a bachelor's degree in management," said Blanding. "Now students can earn an associate's degree at Jackson State and continue on to complete the U of M management program right here on our campus. This partnership is a win-win for all involved and we are pleased to work with Dr. Raines and her staff to make this happen."

"Today's formal agreement between Jackson State Community College and the University of Memphis will make certain that students who complete the approved course of study at JSCC and meet the requirements of entrance to the University of Memphis will be able to transfer their credits from Jackson State to the U of M with ease," said Raines. "It is a tangible example of the close cooperation between the two campuses, cooperation that is of great help to students in beginning and completing their college education." An articulation agreement governs the coordination of all aspects of degree programs in which a student might participate at the two campuses, especially the transfer of class credits. Typically, a student begins work at the community college and, two years later, transfers those credits to the four-year institution. Jackson State and the U of M already have formal articulation agreements for the engineering technology, nursing and education programs. The U of M Jackson Center is housed in the Jackson State Student Union Building and offers seven undergraduate programs and four graduate degree programs. Jackson State Community College offers associate degrees in 27 transfer programs and 18 career programs as well as certificates and non-credit continuing education classes.
