Local author to be hosted by JSCC

Apr 9th, 2018

Jackson State will host internationally-known local poet and author James Cherry on Wednesday, April 18 on its main campus. He will read his original works in an event beginning at 2 p.m. in the Science Building Auditorium. This event is free and open to the community, and it is cohosted by the JSCC Honors Program and the Creative Writing Club.

The author of five books, Cherry's prose and poetry have been published in various literary publications and anthologies in the US as well as several countries spanning four continents. In February he participated in the Equal Justice Initiative's community remembrance memorial for Madison County's lynching victims on campus, where he read the haunting original poem, "Eliza Wood", for one of the victims.
