Jul 3rd, 2007

Jackson, Tenn. - The Tennessee Board of Regents approved several new initiatives for Jackson State Community College, including a new center in Humboldt, at its quarterly board meeting held last week at the college.

The Humboldt Adult Education Center, located on Main Street in Humboldt, is a joint venture between the city of Humboldt and several higher education institutions in West Tennessee including Jackson State, Tennessee Technology Center-Jackson, UT-Martin, and University of Memphis. Jackson State will be the administrative lead institution responsible for staffing the center as well as offering classes. The new Humboldt Adult Education Center will be ready for students in fall 2007.

The Board also approved several new educational offerings for Jackson State. The college will offer four new concentrations in its Computer Information Systems degree: CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Information Assurance, PC Support and Help Desk, and Software Developer.

The college also will offer its new Public Library Certificate this fall. It is designed to provide education to librarians in community-based public libraries. Course topics include genealogy, local history, and children and young adult services.

Registration for the fall semester is in progress now at Jackson State. Each of the new initiatives will be available this fall. To apply, call Jackson State admissions at 424-3520 or download an application at www.jscc.edu/admissions.
