The Tennessee Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (TMATYC) announced the recipient of the teaching excellence award on March 28 at its annual conference in Sevierville, Tennessee. Tim Britt, Associate Professor of Mathematics at Jackson State Community College, received this year's award. The association makes this award only once every two years.
The teaching excellence award is given in even-numbered years to an outstanding Tennessee two-year mathematics instructor. Teaching excellence is the main focus of the award. Criteria for selection are instructional effectiveness and support of students, professional involvement, interaction with colleagues, and service to departments, divisions, and the college. Other colleagues within TMATYC make the nomination for this award. The nominee is required to submit an educational CV. Student evaluations are also taken into consideration to determine the effectiveness of the nominee and the impact they have made in the classroom.
TMATYC is a nonprofit, educational association for those interested in mathematics education within the Tennessee two-year colleges. The purpose of the organization is to encourage the development of effective mathematics programs and to further develop and improve the mathematics education and the mathematics-related experiences of students in two-year colleges.
