Time capsule marks official end to JSCC's 50th year

Jun 22nd, 2018

Wednesday, June 20, marked the official end to JSCC's 50th anniversary with the burial of the time capsule. It was an informal gathering with no specified program or agenda. Approximately 40 faculty and staff turned out on the quad and participated in shoveling dirt to cover the capsule.

Dr. Hamilton spoke to the JSCC family that came out to share in the event. She commented on the events of the past year and how happy she was to be a part of this momentous and historic time of the college. "Jackson State has been an integral part of West Tennessee for fifty years and has played a crucial role in the success of our students and the communities we serve," Hamilton said. "We look forward to a renewed commitment of student, community, and college success for the next fifty years."

A granite marker will be placed on the site where the capsule now resides. The marker instructs that the capsule should be opened in the fall of 2067. Photos from the event can be seen at: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmmZWddS.
