Grammy-nominated musicians in the acclaimed Cajun music band T'Monde will fill Jackson State's Ayers Auditorium with the sounds of ancient French and Creole influenced music. The group will perform a free community concert at the college 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 19.
The International Studies program at JSCC has developed a reputation for bringing world-class musicians and talent to the college for special community performances and master classes for its students. Michael Martin, Chris Segura, Drew Simon and Megan Brown are the musicians currently performing as T'Monde.
T'Monde is the Acadian phenomenon that Offbeat Magazine has called "a creative fusion of classic country and out-of-the-way Cajun." With a number of Grammy nominations between the members, T'Monde brings influences ranging from early Country music to ancient French and Creole ballads to present day Cajun music.
Born out of friendship and a shared love for the music, T'Monde has developed a unique sound that is unmatched in Cajun music today. With their latest album, "Yesterday's Gone," the band showcases their influences and musicianship which makes their sound so special.
Library director Scott Cohen is a long-time supporter of the international studies program at the college and is largely responsible for T'Monde's performance at Jackson State.
"The caliber of talent that the international program has brought to Jackson State over the past several years has been tremendous," said Cohen. "I am thrilled to play a part in what's become a fine college tradition."
