Journey Orientation

JOURNEY is a unique online orientation opportunity for African American females at JSCC who are first-time freshmen. During JOURNEY, students will engage in various workshops to help with the transition to college. Workshops include topics such as college success, accessing online class resources, study tips, and planning your degree path. These sessions will provide support for 8 weeks during the Fall 2020 semester so that students are better able to succeed in their journey at JSCC.

JOURNEY will be held via Zoom on the following Mondays: August 31, September 14, September 21, September 28, October 5, October 19, October 26, and November 2 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Attendees will receive a stipend of $300. We can only accept 25 students, so our preference is students who are able to attend each weekly session of JOURNEY.

It is expected that JOURNEY participants attend all live sessions on time. Please note that receiving the stipend is based on attendance. One excused absence is permitted; however, to receive full points for a missed session, students must meet with a JOURNEY leader to make up the missed session.

JOURNEY attendees will be required to have their video and sound enabled during the weekly Zoom sessions which will also require access to reliable internet.

The JOURNEY application deadline is Monday, August 26, 2020 at 11:59 pm. You must be enrolled at JSCC by the JOURNEY application deadline. You must also complete the online Great Expectations Orientation in addition to the JOURNEY orientation. The committee will contact the 25 chosen attendees by August 28. If you have questions, please contact Joretta Ellison at (731)424-3520 ext. 50318 or jellison9@jscc.edu

Filling out this application does not guarantee your spot in JOURNEY. Accepted students will be contacted on 8/27/20.
