Mary Jane Bassett, dean of academic support at Jackson State Community College, has been named a National Center of Academic Transformation (NCAT) Scholar.
Bassett is one the redesign scholars that will help teams from various institutions to engage in a series of planning tasks for redesigning methods. She helped Betty Frost, who also is an NCAT Scholar, to lead the team at Jackson State to redesign the remedial and developmental math sequences in the college. The 18 members of the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) class of 2010 at Jackson State Community College achieved a 100 percent pass rate on the National Physical Therapy Examination for PTAs. The national average with this test is 83.75 percent.
Successful completion of this exam is necessary for licensure in the state of Tennessee. All of these graduates are now employed in the West Tennessee region.
The job market remains excellent across the nation for PTAs with a projected 33 percent increase in demand expected over the next decade.
The PTA program at JSCC is an application only program. Applications are accepted each spring with a deadline of May 15. The program
