March 21, 12This summer Jackson State Community College (JSCC) alum and current JSCC Academic Assistance Center tutor, Alex Taylor, will be attending a prestigious ten-week summer research program under the department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

The program is designed to provide undergraduate students with the opportunity to carry out research at the forefront of materials science and engineering.

During the ten-week period, students will work under the guidance of MSE faculty and graduate students on a research project in the area of synthesis and characterization of advanced functional materials. Students will also participate in an organized program of lectures, laboratory visits (including the nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory) and a variety of recreational activities.

When speaking about Taylor, Associate Professor of Mathematics at Jackson State, Tim Britt, said, I had the privilege of teaching our Calculus sequence to him and he was one of the best students I have had and is one of the best tutors we have ever had.

Taylor was also the recipient of the Math Award given by Jackson State last year.
