History of Jackson State
Established in 1967 as one of three original Tennessee Community Colleges, Jackson State was the first community college in West Tennessee and remains the only publicly funded college in Jackson. JSCC opened its doors on September 29, 1967, with Dr. Francis E. Wright as president. The expected enrollment of 400 students quickly grew to 640. The college today boasts an annual enrollment of 4,000+ students across a 10-county service area.
