Office of Advising
Your Success is Our Mission
Jackson State provides degree-seeking students advising support to ensure each student’s success. Their Support Team is there to provide assistance and guidance to plan and achieve their academic goals.
Have a question and don’t know who to ask? Ask your Support Team! You can also find information for new students here.
How Does Advising At JSCC Work?
Degree-seeking students are assigned a support team of faculty and staff to support them in different ways. Students can see their assigned support team here, in the Advising card in JWeb, or in your Degree Works tool in JWeb's Student Quick Links.
Who Could Be on My Support Team?
- Success Advisors are trained professional support staff equipped to connect students with campus support resources and provide assistance with academic planning or registration.
- Faculty Mentors are experts in their field of study and can provide guidance and assistance with career questions, program classes or requirements, or application help, as needed. They also serve as a knowledge source for students looking to transfer to a four-year institution after graduation.
- Academic Navigators are an additional layer of support in coordination with the Learning Commons for specifically designated gateway courses.
- Staff Advisors serve our Medical Coding program specifically with guidance for completing that certificate.
- Dual Enrollment Advisors or Middle College Advisors may be assigned to students enrolled at both a high school and Jackson State at the same time.
