Papple Awarded Prestigious Strength and Conditioning Student-Athlete of the Year
Jackson State Community College’s (JSCC) Emily Papple, a standout volleyball student-athlete, has been named a recipient of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Strength and Conditioning Student-Athlete of the Year Award, one of the most respected honors in collegiate athletics for excellence in performance, leadership, and dedication to strength and conditioning.
Papple was one of just 45 volleyball student-athletes and programs nationwide to receive the honor and one of only two honorees representing community colleges. She was recognized alongside student-athletes from top Division I institutions, including Duke University, College of William & Mary, East Tennessee State University, and Bradley University.
“This recognition is a testament to Emily’s relentless work ethic, leadership, and character both on and off the court,” said Alexis Kapales, Head Volleyball Coach at Jackson State. “She embodies everything this award represents.”
Papple’s impact extends far beyond competition. On the court, she earned All-TCCAA Second Team honors, establishing herself as one of the top competitors in the conference. Known for her grit, consistency, and ability to perform in high-pressure moments, Papple’s success is rooted in her dedication to preparation and continuous improvement.
“I’m truly honored to receive this award,” said Papple. “Coach Alexis has truly been a pillar for me to achieve my goals as a player both on and off the court. She saw what I brought to the team, and pushed me to get better, and to grow as a player. I’m thankful for the support I have here at Jackson State, and truly can’t thank everyone enough for pushing me so I could achieve this award.”
In the weight room, she has set the standard for excellence within the program. Her disciplined, focused approach to training has not only elevated her own performance but has also inspired her teammates. Coaches and peers alike recognize her as a leader who demonstrates accountability, positivity, and a commitment to team success.
“Emily exemplifies the complete student-athlete,” Kapales added. “She trains with purpose, leads by example, and brings energy and integrity to everything she does.”
Beyond athletics, Papple is equally committed in the classroom and in her personal development. She is known for her discipline, maturity, and positive attitude, consistently balancing the demands of collegiate athletics with academic responsibilities.
The NSCA Student-Athlete of the Year Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate outstanding athletic achievement, dedication to strength and conditioning, and exceptional character. Papple’s selection places her among an elite group of student-athletes nationwide who represent the highest standards of collegiate sports.
“Emily is an incredible athlete and competitor, but an even better person,” said Kapales. “We are incredibly proud of her and this well-deserved recognition.”
