Michael Winders named Interim Athletic Director

Jackson State Community College (JSCC) has named Michael Winders as Interim Athletic Director. Winders brings 22 years of institutional knowledge and coaching experience to the role and will serve in the role for the next six months as the College continues to implement and execute established plans to reinforce the program as one of the top destinations for student-athletes across the region.

Winders brings extensive experience and a deep understanding of Green Jay Athletics to the position. He played baseball at the College from 2000-2002 and shortly after began his coaching career at the college, serving in multiple coaching roles throughout his tenure as Head Softball Coach, Head Women’s Basketball Coach, and most recently served as head coach of the men’s baseball program where he demonstrated a strong commitment to student-athlete success, team development, and the continued growth of the College’s athletic programs.

In addition to leading the baseball program, Winders has contributed to Jackson State Athletics in a variety of capacities over the years, building strong relationships with student-athletes, coaches, faculty, staff, alumni, and community supporters.

“Michael has been a valued member of the Jackson State family and has played an important role in the success of our athletic programs during his time here,” said JSCC President Dr. Carol A. Rothstein. “His experience, leadership, and understanding of our mission make him well-suited to guide Green Jay Athletics during this transitional period.”

As Interim Athletic Director, Winders will oversee all aspects of the College’s athletic operations, including student-athlete success, program administration, compliance, facilities, and community engagement.

“I am honored to serve Jackson State in this role,” said Winders. “Green Jay Athletics has a strong tradition of excellence, and I look forward to working alongside our coaches, student-athletes, and supporters to continue building on that foundation while helping position the department for future success.”

Winders was appointed by President Rothstein in July and will lead the department until the College conducts a comprehensive national search for a permanent Athletic Director.
